How do you deal with your spouse snoring?

I am wondering what people have found effective in reducing snoring in themselves and in their spouses. My wife claims that rubbing my back while I am snoring will make me stop (for a while at least), but she’s not above kicking me. Do you do something physical that works? Do you use ear plugs or sleeping pills? Do you just move to the couch or make your spouse sleep in another room?

For snorers, do you find that how you sleep affects your snoring? I tend to be quieter if I am sleeping on my side, but then I tend to wake up with my arm asleep. I suspect that pillows are mostly to blame for snoring when sleeping on your back. Other things seem to be gaining weight and having a cold.

I find that if I move around very briskly he will move himself into a position that makes the snoring stop for a little while. The first thing that should be done is to see a doctor. My husband had surgery which helped for about 20 years. I believe it is back because he has gained a significant amount of weight and eats horribly right before bed. Being disturbed by someone else’s snoring, talking, watching tv, whatever, is so frustrating when you are tired. Don’t blame your wife for her actions (I’m not above a few well placed elbows myself). So start with a doctor and work from there. Have you tried the “Breathe Right” strips that go on your nose to hold the nostrils open at night. A lot of people say that they work wonders. Sometimes a humidifier in the room where you sleep works (dry air dries out the air passages and aggravates other issues). Good luck and God Bless.
